The primary design focus for Mountain View House was to create an open, flowing interior with guest rooms for visits from children and grandchildren. The clients prioritized quality over quantity, opting for beautiful materials and design details within a modestly sized home.
A modern variation of the “dog trot” house—a style common throughout the Southeast during the nineteenth century—was developed. The design considerations were influenced by the natural setting, topography, and orientation of light, sun, wind, and mountain views. Respecting the context of the historic district was essential for the appropriate use of materials, size, and scale.
The Blue Ridge Mountains to the west make this an ideal place to relax and enjoy the sunsets.
